A scandal has erupted in Poland over a decision by the Warszawa44 association. The organization awarded the title of “Ambassador of Remembrance” to Monika Laskowska, who is known, among other things, for her activities on the OnlyFans platform.
A post by a user of the service X sparked a storm of reactions online; she shared a screenshot from the Warszawa44 association’s Instagram account. “I can’t fight Minister Chenkovska on my own to stop her from involving women who sell themselves on OnlyFans in campaigns promoting the Warsaw Uprising. You’re spitting in our faces,” wrote Zuzanna Stec.
The woman in question is Monika Laskowska, who is pictured wearing a T-shirt dedicated to the Warsaw Uprising and is described as an “ambassador of remembrance” for the events of 1944. The photo is no longer visible on the Warszawa44 profile, but it has not been removed from the organization’s website.
In addition to Laskowska, several public figures, including well-known athletes, took part in the campaign.
Laskovska gained “popularity,” in particular, by conducting interviews with celebrities who participate in “freak fights.” She also runs an account on the controversial platform OnlyFans. The decision to recognize her as one of the individuals promoting historical memory sparked a wave of criticism online. Users pointed out that the project was sponsored, among others, by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
Sebastian Meitz of the Sobieski Institute asked the head of the Ministry of Culture and the ministry itself on X whether “Ms. Monika Laskowska, known on the ‘blue platform’ (...), was awarded the title of ‘Ambassador of Memory of the Warsaw Uprising’ under the ‘culture’ section or, perhaps, ‘national heritage’?” “Or did the ceiling just fall on your head?” he added.
Piotr Jędrzejowski, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Culture, commented on the matter.
“The Warszawa44 Association’s project ‘Commemoration of the 82nd Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising’ received the honorary patronage of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. This project is neither funded nor organizationally supported by the ministry. The list of ambassadors for the event was not coordinated with the ministry,” he said in an interview with Fakt.
The spokesperson also added that the organizers had mentioned, as one of the elements of the celebrations, “the involvement of representatives from the worlds of culture and sports, as well as well-known figures, as ambassadors of remembrance for the Warsaw Uprising.” “Everyone has the right to honor the memory of the Warsaw Uprising and the insurgents. Ambassadors of the memory of the Warsaw Uprising should be chosen very carefully,” stated Jędrzejowski.
On Thursday, Dariusz Michalak, president of the Warszawa44 association, also responded to the online scandal, assuring that the selection of Laskowska was an independent decision by the organization, and that the ministry “did not appoint or approve individual ambassadors for the campaign, nor did it participate in negotiations regarding this collaboration.”
He also noted that the honorary patronage applies to the entire project and does not imply involvement in personnel decisions. At the same time, he mentioned the reasons for establishing cooperation with Monika Laskowska. “We took into account her presence in the public sphere, her reach on social media, and her stated willingness to promote the memory of the Warsaw Uprising,” he emphasized.
In the statement, the association’s chairman also announced that “in light of the controversies currently arising regarding Ms. Monika Laskowska’s activities,” Warszawa44 has decided to “suspend activities related to her duties as an ambassador.”
