Free museums to operate in Rio de Janeiro on August 23
In Rio de Janeiro on Sunday, August 23, Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB), Paço Imperial in the central part of the city, and the Rio Museum of Modern Art (MAM Rio) in Flamengo Park will operate free of charge. The coastal roads of Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon, and Aterro do Flamengo will be closed to cars from 07:00 to 18:00.
As The Rio Times reports, the daytime high will be around 22°C. The publication estimates the chance of rain after noon at 44%, while sunset is expected at 17:40. The water temperature off the coast will be around 21°C. A much higher probability of precipitation, up to 90%, is forecast for Monday.
Museums and walks
CCBB on Rua Primeiro de Março will be open from 09:00 to 20:00. Admission is free, but visitors need to obtain a ticket. The exhibition “A Olho Nu” by Brazilian artist Vik Muniz is ongoing there and is scheduled to run until October 12. Paço Imperial at Praça XV de Novembro will open at 12:00 and operate until 18:00.

MAM Rio in Flamengo Park will welcome visitors from 11:00 to 18:00 with no admission fee. Museu do Amanhã, where a ticket costs 40 reais, and Museu de Arte do Rio, with an admission price of 20 reais, will also be open. The Sunday Feira da Glória market, offering handmade goods and street food, will take place in the Glória district.
Transport and market
Metro lines 1, 2, and 4 will run on Sunday from 07:00 to 23:00, with a single ride costing 7.90 reais. The VLT tram will also operate, providing travel between Praça XV and Praça Mauá.
Brazil’s Ibovespa stock index rose by 1.85% at the close of trading on August 21, reaching 171,032 points. According to the publication, Brazilian assets recovered at the end of the week, with a weaker dollar being one of the factors.
