Seoul hosts first Munich-approved Oktoberfest — Korea Herald
Oktoberfest Seoul 2026, the country’s first Oktoberfest festival officially approved by the city of Munich, has concluded in Seoul, South Korea. The event took place at Oil Tank Culture Park in the Mapo district in the west of the capital.
German cuisine and Korean chimaek
A paid large tent and a free open-air beer garden were available for guests, offering food, beer and live performances. Visitors could try German beer, pork knuckle, sausages, schnitzels and pretzels. The festival also featured chimaek, the popular South Korean combination of fried chicken and beer.
As Korea Herald reports, German Ambassador to Korea Georg Schmidt said that chimaek pairs well with German beer. German brass bands performed as part of the festival.

Cultural programme and guest feedback
A German culture showroom also operated at the venue, bringing together the German Embassy, the Goethe-Institut and other German organisations. It hosted film screenings and quizzes, as well as provided information about studying in Germany.
According to the publication, the event attracted not only members of the German community, but also Koreans, foreign residents of the city, young people and families. One visitor reported a long wait at the only outdoor beer stall, while noting that performances from the tent were broadcast for guests in the outdoor area. Oktoberfest in Munich dates back to 1810.
