The PUNCH correspondent Patrick Odey dies in Akwa Ibom State
Patrick Odey, a correspondent for The PUNCH newspaper in Akwa Ibom State, died on Tuesday morning after a period of illness, Premium Times Nigeria reports. He was a member of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

Correspondents’ Chapel Chairman Bassey Akra confirmed the journalist’s death on Wednesday. According to him, Odey had health problems. Akra described his colleague as a hardworking, humble and professional journalist who diligently performed his duties and maintained good relations with other people.

Condolences from colleagues
On Tuesday, Daniel Etokidem, media adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, also wrote about Odey’s death on Facebook. He said he had last seen the journalist on August 27 at the Government House press centre in Uyo during the state authorities’ monthly briefing.
Journalist Uwem Kerns also expressed condolences on social media. Patrick Odey covered government, public and private events in Akwa Ibom State for The PUNCH. The deceased’s family has not yet announced the date and arrangements for the burial.
