Mabatho Marakalla calls Daily Maverick internship a career achievement
Mabatho Marakalla, whom Daily Maverick introduced as a new addition to its Johannesburg newsroom, spoke about her internship experience at the publication, her favourite books, TV series and fashion. She called working as an intern at Daily Maverick a career achievement.
According to Marakalla, she learned a great deal about the multimedia industry during her internship, worked with “incredible people” and received valuable advice from them. She also said she hopes to work with Daily Maverick again in the future.
Books, TV series and advice
Marakalla recently read Leon Schreiber’s book Coalition Country. She named The Day of the Jackal as her favourite TV series of all time and said she spends the most time on social network X, both day and night.

Marakalla said the best advice she received was from Bheki C Simelane: not to doubt her own ideas, as any one of them could become a story. She also admires Mfhundo Mabalane, who, in her view, handles hosting duties with ease.
Fashion and everyday preferences
Marakalla said she is a shy person, although she enjoys meeting new people. The latest screenshot on her phone was a pair of high-heeled shoes she wanted to buy but considered too expensive.
She most often wears white sneakers and named a tambourine as her most random online order. If she could travel somewhere the very next day, she would choose the Seychelles. Among her other answers, Marakalla noted that her “guilty pleasure” is ice cream, although she is lactose intolerant.
