MSC marks 30 years of its regional office in Singapore

International shipping company Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) is marking 30 years of operations by its regional office in Singapore. The company maintains a tradition of naming vessels after employees and their family members, Channel NewsAsia reports.

In particular, MSC Jewel, built in 2019, was named after the daughter of regional office Managing Director Grace Chia. MSC Rifaya, built in 2017, was named after the daughter of Logistics Director Raj Mohamed. The daughter of Chief Operating Officer Kelvin Tan became the godmother of MSC Faith, built in 2019. MSC Claire, built in 2026, was named after the daughter of IT Director Duncan Ng.

Careers at the regional office

Chia, Mohamed, Tan and Ng have worked at MSC for between 26 and 30 years. Grace Chia joined the company in 1999 after graduating from university, starting as a documentation specialist. She later worked in trade management, sales, marketing and regional business support, and became the office's managing director in 2025.

According to Chia, moving into new roles gave her opportunities for professional growth, travel and work across Asia. MSC also said it supports employee development through programs for newcomers and managers, internal training, professional certifications, e-learning and experience sharing.

Digital and environmental programs

According to MSC, the regional office holds seminars on the use of artificial intelligence and digital skills courses. Employees receive guidance on AI-based productivity tools, creating prompts for such systems and working with electronic bills of lading.

In May 2026, the MSC team in Singapore raised funds for the National Parks Board 100k Corals Initiative and visited Sisters’ Islands Marine Park, where it learned about coral restoration. The company also reported on its internal Green Enablers program, whose participants study waste recycling practices and sustainable handling of electronic equipment.

MSC says it intends to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The company describes fleet renewal through the construction of new vessels and the modernization of existing ones as part of this strategy.
