Pantler patisserie in Singapore to remain open after agreement with new owner

Japanese-French patisserie Pantler in Singapore will remain open after reaching an agreement with a new owner. The establishment, which had planned to close after 12 years of operation, will remain at its premises in the River Valley area and retain its core team of pastry chefs.

As Channel NewsAsia reports, the patisserie announced on Instagram on September 3 that it would not cease operations. According to co-founder Matthias Fua, he held talks with several interested investors and decided to continue working with the person he considered the most suitable.

Finalizing the deal is ongoing

Fua did not name the new owner or disclose the amount of investment. He explained that the legal and administrative formalities for the deal are still ongoing. According to him, Pantler is planned to remain in River Valley and preserve its current operating format.

The patisserie had initially been due to close on August 30. Fua had previously said that, under current market conditions, the business had become economically unviable. On August 26, the establishment extended its operations until September 6 so that visitors would have more time to buy pastries. After the possible closure was announced, queues formed outside the patisserie, and the establishment also received numerous messages from customers asking for it to remain open.

The founders will step away from the business

Matthias Fua and his co-founder, Japanese pastry chef Tomoharu Morita, will no longer be involved in Pantler's operations after the establishment is transferred to the new owner. At the same time, a significant part of the core team will remain, including sous chef Lin Tian Wei, who has worked at the patisserie for six years.

Fua noted that the new owner may make changes over time, but no immediate large-scale overhaul is expected. Pantler opened in 2014 on Telok Ayer Street and moved to a larger premises in River Valley in February 2021. The establishment is known for its Japanese-French pastries, including the Yatsura chocolate-hazelnut cake, choux à la crème and Swiss rolls.
