More than 100,000 people back complaint against Infantino over ties to Trump
More than 100,000 people have backed a complaint demanding that FIFA investigate possible violations of its code of ethics by the organization’s president, Gianni Infantino, over his ties to US President Donald Trump. This was reported by the human rights organization FairSquare, Channel NewsAsia reports, citing Reuters.
Contents of the complaint
The complaint was filed by FairSquare and its Reboot FIFA campaign. In a letter to FIFA’s Ethics Committee seen by Reuters, the organization accuses Infantino of allegedly abusing his authority and breaching his duty of political neutrality and obligations of loyalty. According to the complainants, he sought to gain the favor of the US president.
FairSquare director Nicholas McGeehan said the renewed complaint was filed after events in recent months during and after the World Cup, which ended in July. The episodes mentioned include Trump’s appeal to Infantino during the tournament asking him to review the sending-off of US national team forward Folarin Balogun. The player’s red card was later suspended.

FairSquare’s demands
FairSquare also claims that Infantino violated FIFA’s political neutrality by publicly supporting Trump’s political slogan and agenda. Another allegation concerns the alleged unilateral establishment of the FIFA Peace Prize without the approval or involvement of the FIFA Council and the presentation of this award to Trump.
The complainants also pointed to the alleged secret development of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project involving politically connected investors while bypassing FIFA governance procedures. According to a source, the proposal was later abandoned after global criticism. FairSquare demands that Infantino be banned from football-related activities for two years.
According to FairSquare, FIFA’s Ethics Committee confirmed receipt of the first complaint on December 12, 2025, but has provided no updates since then. Reuters contacted FIFA for comment. Infantino plans to run for a fourth term in the FIFA presidential election in March, while FairSquare insists that he has already served the maximum permitted three terms.
