Iran threatens strikes on US bases if tankers are attacked
Iran said it would strike US military bases in the region if Iranian oil tankers are attacked. The statement was made by Ali Abdollahi, chief of staff of Iran’s Armed Forces.
Statement by Iran’s military leadership
According to Abdollahi, any attack on Iranian tankers would trigger a military response against US positions in the region. He also claimed that the US military had called for the evacuation of Iranian tankers with the intention of striking them.
The statement by the Iranian official was reported by Cyprus Mail. According to the outlet, Abdollahi’s words were broadcast by Iranian state television.

Reports of explosions
The statement came amid reports by the Mehr and Fars agencies of explosions on the Iranian islands of Khark and Jask, located near the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the main routes for global oil supplies and remains at the center of tensions between Iran and the United States. Iran has previously repeatedly stated that attacks on its vessels or military positions would result in a response against US forces in the region.
