Saudi Arabia and Germany sign memorandum on strategic dialogue — Asharq Al-Awsat

In Berlin, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and German Federal Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul signed a memorandum of understanding to launch a strategic dialogue at the level of the heads of the foreign affairs ministries.

As Asharq Al-Awsat reports, the document provides for strengthening consultations and coordination between the governments of the two countries, as well as the further development of bilateral relations in various areas.

Talks in Berlin

During the meeting, the sides discussed the bilateral and historical ties between Saudi Arabia and Germany, as well as opportunities to strengthen them. They separately addressed economic and trade relations, the volume of bilateral trade, investment, and the expansion of cooperation in various sectors.

The ministers also reviewed the situation in the region. They stressed the importance of the security of international waterways, freedom of maritime navigation, and the restoration of normal conditions in the Strait of Hormuz. The sides confirmed their support for peaceful and diplomatic means of resolving regional and international crises.

Telephone conversations with Britain and Bahrain

Earlier, Prince Faisal bin Farhan held a telephone conversation with the United Kingdom's Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, Edward Miliband. They discussed bilateral relations, regional and international developments, as well as the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, ensure the security of international waterways, and uphold freedom of navigation in order to protect supply chains and international trade.

The Saudi minister also spoke by phone with Bahrain's Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. The sides discussed developments in the region and efforts to maintain security and stability.
