Windsor city council candidate explains remarks about Zionists
In Canada, Windsor, Ontario city council candidate Rasha Zaid, who is running in Ward 4, was captured on video saying that people who call themselves Zionists should be imprisoned. She later said that her words referred to people who, in her view, support the killing of civilians and violations of international law, rather than everyone who identifies as a Zionist.

As The Jerusalem Post reports, Zaid spoke at a demonstration where she said that every person who declares their affiliation with Zionism should be imprisoned, calling such people terrorists. According to the outlet, she also said that protesters would not be free until these people are “not among us.”
Other video footage shared on X by the Leviathan account shows Zaid leading a chant during a march through city streets in which all Zionists are called racists and terrorists. The same account shared screenshots it attributes to her social media pages.

Rasha Zaid’s position
In a statement to The Jerusalem Post, Zaid emphasized that Zionism and Judaism are not identical concepts. She said that equating these concepts can put Jews at risk, as it creates the false impression that all Jews hold the same political beliefs.
Zaid also stated that the circulated excerpts do not convey the full context of her speech. According to her, she did not call for imprisoning a person solely because they self-identify as a Zionist, but spoke about accountability for actions and crimes regardless of who commits them.
Zaid works with the activist group Windsor4Palestine. The official City of Windsor portal confirms her participation in the October municipal elections, in which she is competing against incumbent city councillor Mark McKenzie.
