11-year-old boy wounded in shooting dies in Sydney — The Guardian

An 11-year-old boy has died in hospital in Australia after he was found with gunshot wounds to the face and neck in an apartment in the Norwest area of northwestern Sydney. The child had been in critical condition since the incident on Monday.

Death in hospital

As The Guardian reports, the boy died at about 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead. New South Wales Ambulance paramedics provided him with assistance at the scene and took him to hospital.

Police were called to an apartment on Fairway Drive at about 5:00 p.m. on Monday following reports of a shooting. Five other people were in the residence at the time of the incident, and none of them was injured.

Detentions and investigation

Law enforcement officers detained three 18-year-old men. Two of them were taken to The Hills Police Station and were later released pending further investigation.

The third detainee was taken to Riverstone Police Station. He was charged with concealing a serious criminal offence, and his case is before the court. Police said the investigation is ongoing.
