Body found in Springs, South Africa; police work to identify it — TimesLIVE

In the city of Springs in Gauteng province, South Africa, police are investigating the discovery of a body in an open area near Rokana Road. The body was spotted by a patrol from a private security company, after which police were notified of the discovery, TimesLIVE reports.

Identification

Gauteng police commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni said investigators will thoroughly examine the scene and then conduct a forensic examination. A forensic pathologist is expected to be involved in the work.

According to Mthombeni, DNA and fingerprint analysis will be conducted as part of the scientific component of the investigation. Police are working to identify the deceased person and notify their family.

The latest discovery has brought the number of women’s bodies found in different parts of the Ekurhuleni municipality to 11. On Saturday, the body of Ntombifuthi Nksumalo — the tenth woman found dead in Ekurhuleni — was found in Tembisa, near the Muifontein cemetery in the Vusimuzi area.

Investigation team and reward

Police believe that Nksumalo was stoned to death. A suspect in the case was tracked down in Limpopo province and arrested. Mthombeni said investigations into cases involving the discovery of bodies in the province are being conducted along two lines.

To coordinate the work, police created a steering group involving senior South African Police Service officials, including four lieutenant generals. It includes representatives of criminal investigation units, forensic services, crime intelligence, and the fight against organized crime.

Investigative psychologists have also been involved in the investigations. A reward of 400,000 rand has been announced for information that may assist the investigation. Municipal police units and the Road Traffic Management Corporation are participating in the measures.
