A high-rise residential building collapsed in the Greek capital
In the central Athens neighborhood of Petralona, a five-story residential building collapsed completely during demolition work on a neighboring building. The collapse occurred gradually, allowing all residents to evacuate in time, and no one was injured as a result of the incident.
Police have already detained five people involved in the construction work on the adjacent site. Among those taken into custody are the property owner, the contractor, the supervising engineer, and two workers.

The permit to demolish the old neighboring building was issued back in November 2024 and renewed in July 2025 following a change in ownership. In March 2026, authorities approved a project to build a new five-story building with a basement and an attic on this site.
