Traffic restrictions will be in place in Tallinn on August 22–23 due to the Ironman competition

Significant traffic restrictions will be in place in Tallinn on August 22–23 due to the annual Ironman and Ironman 70.3 triathlon competitions. Roads will be closed, parking will be restricted, and public transportation routes will be rerouted, according to ERR News.

The restrictions will most significantly affect the Haabersti district in the west of the city, Põhja-Tallinn in the north, and the southern districts. The swimming leg of the competition will take place on Lake Raku.

Bus routes 8, 21, 25, 26, 41, 42, and 54 will operate on detours from Saturday morning until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday. Routes 27, 36, and 61 will have altered schedules during daytime hours on both days. In western Tallinn, between the Oja tee and Harkujärve stops, route No. 77 will operate temporarily. Service on route No. 62 will be completely suspended, while route No. 57 will only have changes in the morning.

Viljandi maantee will be closed on the section between Valdeku tänav and the Kangru interchange: on Saturday from 5:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., and on Sunday from 6:50 a.m. to 12:35 p.m. Paldiski maantee will be closed between Tuuleveski tänav and Tutermaa: on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 8:35 a.m. to 4:35 p.m.

Traffic will also be restricted in the right lane of Paldiski maantee heading out of town between Vesiravila and Mõisapõllu. The restrictions will affect the intersections with Vabaõhumuuseumi tee, Mõisa Street, and Mõisapõllu Street—until 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and until 7:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Traffic will be directed by licensed traffic controllers. They will allow residents and local services to pass on a case-by-case basis, and the roads will remain accessible to emergency services. Pedestrians in some areas may have to wait up to 30 minutes to cross the race route. Organizers have stated that all residents will be able to get home, although delays are possible. Roads will reopen after the last participant has passed and the temporary infrastructure has been dismantled.
