Thai police officer surrenders after shooting at kindergarten
In Chonburi province in eastern Thailand, a police officer surrendered to law enforcement after an 18-hour standoff. According to Channel NewsAsia, he is suspected of killing his wife, who worked as a kindergarten teacher.
Shooting at a kindergarten
According to provincial authorities, Bang Lamung police station officer Tatsapong Thongthat allegedly shot his wife on Wednesday morning in the building of the Nongplalai municipal kindergarten. The institution is located about 150 kilometres southeast of Bangkok.
After the shooting, the man fled to his home. Police surrounded the residence, where he remained until surrendering after an 18-hour standoff with law enforcement.

Evacuation of pupils and review of rules
All 44 kindergarten pupils were unharmed. They were evacuated along with teachers after the shooting. Classes at the institution were suspended until Friday as a precautionary measure.
School security and gun violence in Thailand came into focus after several incidents in August and September. The country’s government ordered a review of weapons circulation rules, including suspending the issuance of new permits to purchase weapons and checking existing licences.
