In Turkey, a governor was fired after a photo of him wearing cycling tights was published
In Turkey, the governor of Ardahan Province, Mehmet Fatih Çiçekli, was dismissed from his post after photos of him wearing cycling tights went viral on social media. The decree was signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The authorities did not cite an official reason for the dismissal. However, prior to this, a number of Turkish politicians had criticized the governor for the athletic attire he wore while participating in an event to promote cycling and for posting photos of himself on social media.
Çiçekli himself stated that he was wearing standard cycling gear and emphasized that he has been involved in cycling, rowing, and sailing for many years.

Following his dismissal, a petition was launched in support of the former governor, which gathered over 10,000 signatures. Its authors claim that the official made a significant contribution to the development of sports, youth programs, and cycling tourism in the region.
