A Ukrainian man was deported from Poland for catching a giant catfish

Poland has decided to deport a Ukrainian citizen and ban him from entering the country for five years. The decision came after widespread outrage following the man’s catch of a massive catfish from Warsaw’s Lake Balaton, in violation of local fishing regulations.

Following the conclusion of the investigation into the 57-year-old Ukrainian man, who was detained after catching the legendary catfish in Warsaw, he was handed over to representatives of the Border Guard.

There, it was decided to deport him to Ukraine on the grounds that his continued stay in Poland “poses a threat to public order.”

A spokeswoman for the Nadwiślański Border Guard Department stated that, in addition, the Ukrainian man was banned from entering Poland and Schengen Area countries for the next five years.

The man was taken to the border crossing point in Dorohusk that same day and handed over to Ukrainian border guards.

Prior to this, the man was charged with fishing during the closed season, as well as transporting the catch without water, which is considered cruel treatment.

The 182-centimeter-long catfish had lived in a Warsaw lake for about 20 years and had become a local legend, so the Ukrainian man’s actions immediately sparked a strong reaction.
