Yemeni government forces said they retook positions in the southwestern province of Taiz and advanced toward the Gail Bani Omar area. This was reported by Anadolu Agency, citing the state-run Saba agency and a military source.
Advance in the Taiz area
According to a source in Taiz's military command, government troops retook positions overlooking the Jardada area in the Ash-Shamayatayn district. The military claims that the Houthis had previously infiltrated these positions.
Afterward, government forces advanced toward Gail Bani Omar, according to Saba. This rural area is a front line between government forces and the Houthis. The source also said military equipment was captured during the clashes and that Houthi fighters suffered losses, without specifying their number.
Strikes on Houthi positions
A military source reported a series of airstrikes on Houthi positions, gatherings and vehicles in several parts of Taiz province. According to the source, the strikes targeted sites in the districts of Dubab, Al-Waziya and Hayfan.

Another strike, the military claims, targeted a gathering of Houthi fighters in the Al-Afira area of Jabal Habashi district. The source said several military vehicles were destroyed and a stockpile of medium-caliber ammunition exploded. According to the source, at least 10 Houthi fighters were killed. The Houthis did not immediately comment on the reports.
Fighting in other provinces
In recent days, the Houthis have claimed control over several districts in the provinces of Al-Hudaydah and Taiz on the western coast, as well as Red Sea islands, including Perim Island in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Government forces, for their part, reported advances in Al-Jawf province near the border with Saudi Arabia and approaching its administrative center, Al-Hazm.
Fighting between Yemen's government forces and the Houthis has intensified since the beginning of July 2026 after several years of relative calm. The conflict in the country has continued since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces, and in March 2015 a Saudi Arabia-led coalition intervened in support of the internationally recognized government.
