About two months after that incident, Young killed his girlfriend, Hannah McGuire, at her home. He was subsequently tried for her murder, a case that ABC described as one of the most high-profile in Ballarat in recent years.
Young initially pleaded not guilty to the murder charge but changed his plea during the trial. He admitted to committing domestic violence, which, according to ABC, resulted in McGuire’s murder. Her body was burned inside a car.
