Following the attack on Odesa, Estonia called for tougher sanctions against Russia

Following the attack on Odesa, Estonia called for tougher sanctions against Russia

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna reacted strongly to yet another Russian strike on Odesa.

The hostile attack on April 6 killed civilians, including a young mother and her two-year-old child.

The Estonian diplomat emphasized that the international community must move beyond expressions of sympathy to concrete economic measures.

He is convinced that only the complete isolation of the aggressor can stop the regular killings of Ukraine’s civilian population.

“Words of ‘deep concern’ are not enough,” Tsakhna stated in his official statement.

The minister emphasized that the lack of decisive action by allies effectively gives the Kremlin regime free rein to continue its terror.

According to the Estonian official, the Russian war machine continues to be funded through energy exports. As long as the world continues to buy Russian oil and gas, the aggressor receives the resources to produce missiles and drones.

“Without new sanctions packages, we are giving Russia the opportunity to continue killing children. Silence and indifference cost human lives,” added the Estonian Foreign Minister.

He called on European partners to immediately review their sanctions policy.

The tragedy in Odesa, where a 53-year-old woman and a small child were killed, was yet another confirmation of the enemy’s genocidal tactics. The Russian army deliberately targets residential neighborhoods for nighttime strikes.

Estonia consistently advocates for the imposition of the strictest restrictions against the aggressor country’s economy. Diplomats note that any delays in adopting sanctions lead to new tragedies on Ukrainian soil.

As a reminder, Russia attacked energy facilities in five regions of Ukraine.

Enemy forces also attacked the Dnipropetrovsk region.
