Estonia launches 65 research projects worth €50.6 million — ERR News

In September, 65 research and development projects selected in the second round of the TemTA thematic research and development programme will begin work in Estonia. Their total value is €50.6 million, and implementation will continue until August 31, 2029.

As ERR News reports, support was awarded to projects selected from 112 applications with a total value of €85 million. The work covers increasing the value of local resources, digital solutions, medical technologies, as well as smart and sustainable energy solutions.

Cooperation between science and business

The second-round projects involve 13 research institutions, including six Estonian universities of applied sciences, 184 companies and organizations, as well as 121 doctoral students and early-career researchers. Scientists will cooperate with businesses and industry associations to apply research results in practical solutions.

Mats Hansen, head of targeted funding at the Estonian Research Council, noted that projects must be developed jointly with companies and other users of research results from the outset. The topics range from improving the performance of elite athletes to recycling textile waste and creating architectural security solutions for artificial intelligence networks.

More than €103 million for two rounds

Taking into account the first TemTA round, 113 projects have already received support: 48 started earlier, while another 65 will begin work in September. The total investment in these projects amounts to €103.4 million.

During preparations for the second round, companies and organizations submitted nearly 300 development tasks, which became the basis for shaping the projects. The TemTA programme is co-financed by the European Union and Estonia's Ministry of Education and Research and is administered by the Estonian Research Council.
