Iran seizes assets of 240 opposition figures and journalists — Euronews
In Iran, the judiciary has seized the assets of 240 opposition figures, journalists and public figures and frozen 182 bank accounts. Euronews reports, citing Mizan, an agency affiliated with the judicial system. Police chief Ahmadreza Radan also stated that more than 6,000 people were detained in connection with the January protests in the country.
Charges against those involved
According to Mizan, 143 cases of property confiscation took place in Tehran. The people whose assets were seized are accused of propaganda activities, actions against the country and actions in favor of “hostile governments.”
The agency said that those whose property was confiscated include journalists from the Persian-language opposition broadcasters Iran International and Manoto, as well as activists and public figures living abroad.
Iranian media included the case of businessman Sadegh Saeedi-Nia among the high-profile proceedings against opponents of the authorities. His property was confiscated, and the businessman himself was sentenced to imprisonment. The judicial system also sent more than 2,000 requests to the Central Bank of Iran regarding the accounts of the accused and warned of further confiscations and proceedings.

Police statements and executions
Radan reported the detention of three members of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (MEK), which operates in exile and seeks to overthrow the authorities in Tehran. According to him, the organization’s members were involved in what Iranian authorities call an attempted coup: this is how the Islamic Republic characterizes the protests of December and January.
The police chief also said that security forces prevented the Chaharshanbe Suri festival, celebrated on the last Wednesday of the year, from being used for new unrest.
According to the Norwegian monitoring group Iran Human Rights, at least 532 people have been executed in Iran since January. At least 29 of them, according to the organization, were linked to the January protests.
