In Israel, leader of the “People of Israel” party criticizes “Naza” director

In Israel, Ofer Winter, leader of the “People of Israel” party, said at a party gathering in Rishon LeZion that Israeli director Yuval Abraham has “nothing to return to” in the country. Abraham is one of the directors of the documentary film “Naza,” together with Rachel Szor.

As The Jerusalem Post reports, Winter accused Abraham of, in his words, “blackening and disgracing his own people.” The politician also said he was ready to meet the director personally to explain to him what he considers the ingratitude of such actions and the moral standards of Israeli military personnel.

Party plans

Winter said that if elected to the next government, which, according to him, should be headed by Yoseph Haddad, he wants to create a ministry of public diplomacy. According to the politician, this agency will not remain silent in response to what he called a “blood libel.”

The head of “People of Israel” also said that for three weeks his party has been under attack from the right-wing political camp, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the Likud party. He claimed that Likud ministers, Knesset members and candidates had called to “remove” him and other candidates from the party list, which consists of Israel Defense Forces reservists. Winter also accused his opponents of sending private detectives, hate messages and threats.

Dispute with opponents

In his speech, Winter criticized Yair Golan, leader of the Democrats party, and Avigdor Lieberman, leader of the Yisrael Beiteinu party. He said that Lieberman was misleading voters by promising to secure a “decisive victory” for the right while at the same time counting on a partnership with Golan and Gadi Eisenkot in the government.

In response, Lieberman called Winter a hypocrite. He said that the Israel Defense Forces are subordinate to the government and that responsibility for the events of October 7, in his words, therefore lies with the entire government and primarily with Netanyahu. The “People of Israel” party responded that Lieberman cannot influence the situation while “sitting in the stands,” and that defeating the enemy is possible only in a right-wing government.

The Reservists party, led by Yoaz Hendel, for its part said that Winter had been a decisive military officer but is a less decisive politician. It criticized him for refusing to support significant sanctions against those evading conscription.
