Israeli soldier to be charged with murder — Jerusalem Post

In Israel, the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office, after 40 days in custody, filed a prosecutor's declaration of intent to charge a 24-year-old Israel Defense Forces soldier with the murder of Hisham Khujairat. This was reported by The Jerusalem Post, citing Israeli police.

According to police, Khujairat's death is connected to a conflict between the Sawaad and Khaldi criminal groups.

Shooting near the house

Law enforcement officials said that Khujairat was shot dead near his home on August 12. Police believe that the 24-year-old soldier was the shooter. Medics later pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Police claim that after the shooting, the serviceman left the scene together with several people whom investigators consider his accomplices. The car that law enforcement officers say was used for the escape was abandoned in a forest near Bir el-Maksura, where the soldier lives.

Detention and previous incident

Investigators from the Lahav 433 unit detained the soldier after he returned to the forest with a bottle of gasoline. According to investigators, he planned to set the abandoned vehicle on fire.

Police also link Khujairat's murder to a separate incident at a bus terminal in Shfaram on July 1. Khujairat was wounded in a shooting that occurred after the murder of Ali Sawaad.
