Vance comments on reports of strike on wedding in Iran
US Vice President J.D. Vance, commenting on reports of the deaths of four people, including a child, during a wedding in southern Iran, said that “sometimes things like this happen.” He said he was skeptical of reports about the incident.
As The Guardian reports, the strike occurred in the city of Kouhestak, in Sirik County near the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian Red Crescent said that debris from a US missile hit a residential building where the wedding was taking place. According to its data, four people were killed and more than 50 were injured.
Vance’s statement
During a briefing at the White House, Vance said he had no new information about the specific strike. According to him, the United States is investigating the circumstances of the incident. He also said that the United States does not strike civilians in combat operations, but acknowledged that such cases sometimes occur.

The vice president questioned the credibility of reports by Iranian state media. At the same time, according to The Guardian, the information about the casualties was released by the Iranian Red Crescent, a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Operation details
US Central Command reported that overnight into Tuesday, US strikes targeted Iranian air defense systems, radars, maritime facilities, and communications assets. The command did not specify whether the building where the wedding was held was a target of the operation.
Vance also said that the confrontation between the United States and Iran, which has lasted for a seventh month and resulted in the deaths of 18 US service members, is not currently a war. Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna criticized this assessment, saying that it is a war.
