Video: A powerful explosion rocked the area near Chisinau overnight
A powerful explosion was heard on the night of September 18 near the Moldovan village of Kolonitsa. The village borders Chisinau, and police are checking the surrounding villages.
Local residents reported the loud noise to the police around 4:00 a.m. According to available information, the explosion occurred in the southwestern part of the village of Kolonitsa, in the direction of the village of Togatine.
Police immediately went to the specified areas and checked the villages of Kolonitsa and Humulești, but found no traces of an explosion there. Additional checks are currently being conducted in the villages of Dolynne and Maksymivka.
Angela Zaporozhan, the mayor of Kolonitsa, clarified that the explosion itself did not occur within the boundaries of her village.
Viorel Cerneuțanu, head of the General Police Inspectorate, told reporters that the police are examining other video recordings to pinpoint the exact location of the explosion.
“It may come to the point where we’ll have to check a few more areas,” Cherneuțanu noted.
According to him, additional police officers were dispatched to the scene, and drones were deployed to locate the source of the explosion.
The Moldovan Ministry of Defense told NewsMaker that it did not detect any violations of the country’s airspace on the night of September 18.
Six hours have already passed, and the cause of the explosion remains unknown.
