Lee confirms new South Korean Supreme Court justice — Korea Herald
South Korean President Lee Jae Myung on Friday, September 18, 2026, confirmed the appointment of Kim Sung-soo as a new Supreme Court justice. The presidential office reported this, according to The Korea Herald.
Parliamentary approval
The president made the decision the day after South Korea's National Assembly approved the motion to confirm Kim Sung-soo's nomination. A total of 227 lawmakers voted in favor of the decision, while 28 voted against it.
The vote was preceded by hearings on Kim's nomination, which took place earlier this week. On Monday, he attended a hearing at the National Assembly in Seoul.

Chief justice's recommendation
Last month, South Korean Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae recommended that the president appoint Kim Sung-soo as the successor to former Supreme Court Justice Lee Heung-gu.
Kim Sung-soo will become the first Supreme Court justice to take office since the Lee Jae Myung administration began work last year.
