Video: A solar eclipse was filmed from an airplane window
A rare solar eclipse, which was observed in various European countries on August 12, was captured on video from aboard an airplane.
The footage shows what the eclipse looked like from an altitude of several thousand meters. The video was posted on social media platform X.
On August 12, millions of people in the United Kingdom and Europe observed the solar eclipse. For many, it was a special event, as a total eclipse in the region is a rare occurrence.
The total phase of the eclipse was visible in certain areas of Greenland, Portugal, and Spain. In other parts of Europe, the eclipse was partial.

The first photographs of the total phase of the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026, were captured over the Skorsby-Sunn Fjord in Greenland. The images were taken from the deck of the MS Spitsbergen, which was participating in an HX Expeditions cruise to observe the eclipse.
During a live broadcast of the solar eclipse on August 12, NASA displayed a map on which the temporarily occupied Crimea was marked as part of Russia. This sparked outrage due to the inaccurate depiction of Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders.
