The war in Iran cost the U.S. $25 billion — Reuters
A senior Pentagon official has for the first time provided an official estimate of U.S. spending on the war in Iran. According to him, the conflict has already cost the United States $25 billion to date.
This was reported by Reuters.
Jules Hurst, acting comptroller, told lawmakers on the House Armed Services Committee that most of these funds went toward ammunition.
Hirst did not specify what exactly this cost estimate included or whether it accounted for projected costs to rebuild and repair infrastructure in the Middle East damaged during the conflict.
The committee’s top Democrat, Congressman Adam Smith, responded to Hurst: “I’m glad you answered that question. Because we’ve been asking about this for a very long time, and no one has given us any figures.”
This comes as the U.S. approaches midterm elections in just six months, in which Republicans may face challenges. Meanwhile, Democrats are polling strongly and are attempting to link the unpopular war in Iran to questions of fiscal responsibility.
