The wars in Ukraine, Lebanon and West Asia have demonstrated that drones have become a central element of modern warfare. The spread of low-cost unmanned systems suitable for mass production is changing perceptions of military power.
Traditional military advantage
As The Hindu International reports, for decades military power was determined by the scale and technological level of conventional arsenals. These included combat aviation, tanks, artillery, warships, air defense systems, precision-guided missiles and other costly assets.
Under such conditions, armies with technologically advanced platforms, sophisticated intelligence networks and substantial budgets had the advantage on the battlefield. Smaller armies and non-state participants in conflicts mainly used asymmetric tactics, including guerrilla warfare and ambushes, to offset the adversary's advantage in firepower and operational capabilities.

Since the early stages of Russia's invasion, Ukraine has adapted commercially available drones for military purposes. Russia is an aggressor state against Ukraine.
The publication notes that as the number of inexpensive unmanned systems increases, military capabilities increasingly depend on industrial scale, technological adaptation and the ability to produce, deploy and neutralize drones.
