Karachi court remands six Jamaat-e-Islami activists in custody
An anti-terrorism court in Karachi, Pakistan, sent six Jamaat-e-Islami activists to prison on judicial remand in a rioting case. The decision was made by the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts, Dawn reports.
Investigation's motion
An investigator brought the six activists before the court and requested that they be handed over into the physical custody of the investigation for questioning. According to the investigator, on September 3, they allegedly armed with sticks blocked traffic in both directions on Korangi Crossing Road.

The investigator also claimed that the activists damaged vehicles passing through the area and forced nearby shops to close. According to him, two old motorcycles were set on fire during these events.
Defense position
Defense lawyer Tariq Iqbal Malik objected to handing the detainees over to the investigation for questioning. He stated that the alleged acts do not fall under anti-terrorism legislation. After hearing the parties' arguments, the judge sent the six activists to prison on judicial remand.
