The award was jointly established by Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, The Jerusalem Post, and the UnitEd organization, in partnership with Herzog College and the Education Department of the World Zionist Organization.

Eight winners

The winners are Meir Bunitov of Beit Hayladim School in Mexico, Marina Hrushevska of Lauder Etz Chaim School in Russia, Raquel Hakim of Yeshurun Torá in Buenos Aires, Rachel Israeloyevich of Yabne Henri Schilli in Paris, Dina Jacobson of Yavneh College in London, Anat Kampf of Margolin Hebrew Academy in Memphis, Tal Kattan of King David Primary School Linksfield in Sydney, and Zvi Lev of Yeshiva University High School for Girls in New York.

Selection and award ceremony

More than 200 nominations were submitted after an international campaign that encouraged Jewish schools and parents to nominate candidates. Applicants were assessed by a professional committee of education experts from Herzog College, while finalists were reviewed by an international jury chaired by Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism Amichai Chikli.

The winners will be honored at the Global Jewish Educators Conference, which is planned to be held in Jerusalem in October. Each winner will also receive a $2,500 cash prize from the Mayberg Foundation’s Jewish Educator Impact Fund.

Rachel Fink, director of education at UnitEd, said that the organization currently works with more than 850 Jewish schools in over 50 countries. According to her, the competition gives the global community an opportunity to thank educators for whom teaching the next generation is a lifelong calling.
