Ogun State government in Nigeria allocates 6.75 billion naira to pensioners
The government of Ogun State in Nigeria has allocated 6.75 billion naira for the payment of retirement gratuities and additional pension benefits to former civil servants. This was reported by Premium Times Nigeria, citing a statement by the state’s Head of Service, Olanrewaju Saka.
Payments for 432 recipients
According to Saka, 2.751 billion naira was allocated for the payment of gratuities to 432 recipients. Another 4 billion naira was allocated for additional pension benefits for eligible pensioners for the period from July 2025 to the present.
The Head of Service said that the state authorities continue working to clear outstanding pension obligations and improve the welfare of former employees. He also noted that the government seeks to ensure the payment of due funds to workers who served the state despite other budgetary needs.

How the additional pension benefit works
The additional pension benefit was introduced to partially cover the difference between payments pensioners could have received under the previous defined-benefit scheme and the amounts provided under the contributory pension system. Under this system, workers have pension savings in their own accounts, but for some pensioners, payments may be lower than under the old mechanism.
Saka stressed that the additional benefit is funded separately from money in pension savings accounts and does not reduce pensioners’ savings. He urged serving civil servants to check that their pension data and documents are up to date.
