Inflation in Argentina slowed to 1.7% in August — Buenos Aires Times
In Argentina, monthly inflation amounted to 1.7% in August, the lowest figure in the past 14 months. Since the beginning of the year, prices have risen by 21.3%, while the annual inflation rate reached 33.5%, the national statistics bureau INDEC reported.
As Buenos Aires Times reports, the figure matched the pace of price growth in the food and beverages category, as well as data released earlier by the city authorities. In July, monthly inflation in the country stood at 2.1%.
Core inflation data
Core inflation, which excludes regulated and seasonal prices, was 1.8% in August. At the same time, seasonal prices fell by 0.9%.

Regulated prices were adjusted, including for electricity, gas, public transport and private health insurance. Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels saw the largest monthly increase, rising by 2.8%. Prices in the education sector increased by 2.5%.
Government reaction
Economy Minister Luis Caputo welcomed the return of monthly inflation below the 2% mark. The article notes that the INDEC data released did not come as a surprise to the market.
