Prison break amid unrest in Jalisco, Mexico
In the Mexican state of Jalisco, 23 prisoners escaped during a riot. According to the state’s Secretary of Public Security, accomplices of the inmates fired at the prison and then used a vehicle to break down the gates. During the ensuing shootout, one prison guard was killed.
Following the unrest, Mexican authorities deployed an additional 2,000 soldiers to Jalisco to restore order. The escape and violence highlight the ongoing security challenges in the region.
