President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian tankers subject to sanctions must not only be stopped, but also blocked, and their cargo confiscated.
He said this in an evening address.
According to the head of state, an appropriate legal framework must be established for such actions, which Ukraine is already working on together with its European partners.
“As long as the war continues, pressure on the aggressors must continue,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The president noted that Russia continues to transport oil, including Iranian oil, despite sanctions, using the so-called “shadow fleet.”
He stressed that Russia and Iran are effectively acting as allies in these schemes, so pressure must be applied to both regimes.
On the morning of March 20, the French Navy detained the tanker Deyna in the Mediterranean Sea, which is linked to the so-called Russian “shadow fleet.”
As a reminder, the tanker was damaged in the Gulf of Oman by an unknown projectile.
