Larnaca resident criticizes end of free parking near Finikoudes
An anonymous local resident of Larnaca, Cyprus, criticized the decision to redevelop the free parking area in front of the Finikoudes promenade. In a letter published by Cyprus Mail, he said that following these changes, visitors have found it difficult to find a free parking space near the promenade.
Parking complaints
According to the letter’s author, it was previously possible to park for free at this site. Now, he claims, the city council has decided to turn the entire area into a bus zone.
The author also said that he had heard about plans to keep more than 100 buses there in waiting mode. He estimates that between 1,000 and 2,000 cars used this parking area on a typical day. In his view, the loss of these spaces has caused an acute parking shortage, and drivers have begun leaving their cars on roads, sidewalks and in other available places.

Visiting the promenade
The Larnaca resident noted that he previously drove to Finikoudes every day for walks and spent between €10 and €15 a day in the area. According to him, he has not visited the promenade since the change that took place last week.
The letter’s author also expressed the opinion that Cypriots do not often use buses because of unreliable schedules. He added that, as a local resident, he will now likely have to walk one or two miles to reach Finikoudes.
