China's foreign trade rose 17.6% in eight months — ECNS
In China, the total value of goods exports and imports from January to August 2026 increased by 17.6% year on year, reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, or about $5.13 trillion. The data were released by China's General Administration of Customs, ECNS reports.
Export and import indicators
Over eight months, China's exports amounted to 20.17 trillion yuan, increasing by 14.6% compared with the same period of the previous year. Imports rose by 22% to 14.61 trillion yuan.
The growth rate of total foreign trade from January to August was 0.3 percentage points higher than in the January-July period.

August dynamics
In August alone, China's foreign trade volume reached 4.65 trillion yuan, up 19.8% year on year. Monthly exports rose by 18.6%, while imports increased by 21.7%.
August was the fourth consecutive month in which both exports and imports showed double-digit growth rates. At the same time, imports grew faster than exports for the sixth consecutive month.
