Movin’On urged the EU to create conditions for sustainable mobility
In France, where Movin’On will hold a summit in Paris on October 8–9, the organization’s CEO, Gaël Quennec, in a sponsored column for Politico Europe, urged the EU not only to set sustainable mobility targets but also to create the economic and regulatory conditions for achieving them. Quennec cited ICCT data: in 2025, 28% of new heavy-duty trucks sold in China were electric. In the EU, zero-emission trucks accounted for 1.9% of new truck sales. According to the author, this gap is related not only to technology but also to the distribution of financial and investment risks among manufacturers, carriers, energy companies and financial institutions.
Truck electrification
According to Eurostat data cited in the column, road transport accounts for 78% of land freight transport in the EU. Among the barriers to truck electrification, the author named a higher purchase price, uncertain residual value, the need for charging infrastructure and slow connections to power grids.

As possible mechanisms, Quennec mentioned battery leasing, residual value guarantees, shared use of charging infrastructure and contracts to secure volumes. He believes that public involvement is needed, in particular, to speed up power-grid connections and ensure the compatibility of charging systems.
Compact electric vehicles and AI
The author also described compact affordable electric vehicles as a strategic segment for European industry. According to him, the European Commission has proposed a separate category for compact electric cars with incentives for vehicles manufactured in Europe. Together with industrialists and experts, Movin’On is promoting the Pop Car project — a concept for a more affordable electric vehicle with lower weight and a smaller battery without reducing safety requirements.
Quennec also raised the issue of using artificial intelligence in mobility management. From August 2, 2026, the first transparency requirements for certain systems apply under the AI Act. In his view, AI systems in mobility should demonstrate a net benefit in terms of carbon impact, cost to users or accessibility, rather than only time savings.
