American singer Britney Spears has been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office stated that charges have been filed against her, but did not specify which substances may have been involved.

A preliminary hearing in the Britney Spears case is scheduled for Monday. It will take place in the Ventura County Superior Court. In a press release, officials stated that the pop star is not required to be present, as she has been charged only with a misdemeanor.
As a reminder, the Grammy Award winner was arrested on the evening of March 4 on suspicion of driving under the influence after police officers noticed she was speeding.
In a comment to E! News, Spears’ representative stated that an “unfortunate incident had occurred that is absolutely inexcusable.” He added that moving forward, the singer “intends to take the right steps and abide by the law.”
In a press release, prosecutors noted that the pop star would have the opportunity to enter into a plea agreement that would allow her to avoid jail time. The agreement includes probation, attendance at a DUI prevention course, and a fine.
About a month after her arrest, a representative for Britney stated that she had voluntarily checked into a rehabilitation center.
