Ghanaian actress Salma Mumin says she lost endorsement deals over criticism

Ghanaian actress and film producer Salma Mumin said she lost endorsement deals due to a negative reaction on social media to changes in her body. She spoke about this in an interview with host Nikki Samonas on the Changes program on Joy Prime, MyJoyOnline reports.

Existing and potential contracts

According to Mumin, she previously promoted Maggi Cube and other brands. She linked the loss of these contracts to a wave of criticism that arose after her appearance changed.

The actress also claims that some brands with which she had previously discussed possible cooperation stopped negotiations. In her opinion, this was influenced by the way her appearance was discussed on social media in Ghana.

Refusal to remain silent

Mumin said that at the beginning of her career, she preferred not to react to public mentions of herself, whether positive or negative. She considered silence the best way to respond to criticism.

However, comments about her body, the actress says, began to harm her reputation and relationships with friends. She stated that people spread false information, insulted her and called her a bad friend.

Mumin noted that eight years after this criticism began, she changed her approach and started responding to individual social media users. She explained this by her desire to protect her right to decide for herself how to change her own appearance.
