Singer Kelly Clarkson calls for AI music to be separated in charts — Rolling Stone
Singer Kelly Clarkson said that performers created with the help of artificial intelligence should not compete with humans in music charts. At the same time, her positive remarks about AI drew criticism from users on social media and in comments on a podcast episode, Rolling Stone reports.
Separate charts for AI
During an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast, hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Clarkson called ChatGPT her “lover.” She said she had used the platform to plan the interior design of her home in Santa Barbara.
In a hot-takes segment, the artist said she loves AI and is impressed by some of its capabilities. According to her, she is also interested in the technology from an artistic perspective. However, Clarkson stressed that she objects when AI performers appear in the same chart as humans and proposed creating a separate ranking for them.

The singer added that the technology could enable people who were previously unable to do certain things to create. At the same time, in her view, this space for experimentation should not involve AI competing with humans.
Audience reaction
Some users on X and YouTube criticized Clarkson’s remarks. Commenters in particular voiced concerns about AI’s impact on art, as well as the environmental costs of operating the technologies and data centers. One X user said that AI is not creative because it is trained on the work of real artists.
Rolling Stone notes that Clarkson is not the only musician to have supported the use of AI in music: Diplo, Timbaland, Lauv, and Paul McCartney have also used the technology. In another interview published three weeks before this article, Clarkson expressed a more critical position on AI in art: she called the technology useful in other areas of life, but said it lacks soul and that nothing can replace a real person.
