In Italy, police shut down Mick Jagger's party due to a ban on music

On the island of Stromboli, Italian police shut down a party attended by Mick Jagger and his film crew. According to The Guardian, the event was halted due to local regulations restricting loud music on Wednesdays, known as “Quiet Wednesday.” The event was held to celebrate the completion of the film “Three Incestuous Sisters.”

The 82-year-old frontman of The Rolling Stones was on the volcanic island in the Sicilian Aeolian archipelago for the filming of a movie by Italian director Alice Rohrwacher. In the film, Jagger plays a lighthouse keeper.

The celebration took place at a local venue on Wednesday evening. Along with Jagger, other actors from the film were present, including Josh O’Connor, Jessie Buckley, Saoirse Ronan, Dakota Johnson, and Isabella Rossellini.

According to Italian media reports, the music was playing from a small speaker and wasn’t particularly loud. However, following complaints from local residents, the police arrived at the scene shortly before midnight and asked the party to wrap up. The guests, though surprised by this decision, agreed to turn off the music.

The incident was criticized by Rosa Oliva, president of the local Pro Loco Amo Stromboli association. She stated that the island, which relies on tourism, should support such moments of international attention rather than respond to them with punitive measures.

An island of international significance, such as ours, deserves proper administrative management capable of preventing problems and fostering dialogue among local communities, rather than resorting to belated or punitive interventions,” said Oliva.

According to her, one would have expected the mayor to at least welcome the guests and thank them for their contribution to the visibility and economy of the Aeolian Islands.

The film crew left Stromboli on Thursday. Meanwhile, Jagger, who owns a home in the Sicilian province of Syracuse, flew off the island in a private helicopter.
