COCOBOD in Ghana raises cocoa price to 42,400 cedis per tonne — MyJoyOnline

Ghana’s Cocoa Board, COCOBOD, has raised the cocoa producer purchase price for the 2026/2027 season from 41,392 to 42,400 Ghanaian cedis per tonne. COCOBOD Chief Executive Randy Abbey announced the new price at the launch of the season, MyJoyOnline reports.

Increase of 2.4%

The price of a tonne of cocoa increased by 1,008 cedis, or approximately 2.4% compared with the previous price. Randy Abbey also announced a realized FOB price of $2,650 per tonne for the 2026/2027 season.

According to COCOBOD, the new producer price amounts to 71.18% of the realized FOB value. The board said this reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that farmers receive a substantial share of the value generated by their produce.

New pricing system

The price adjustment comes amid reforms in the cocoa sector aimed at strengthening COCOBOD’s financial stability and protecting farmers’ incomes. The new pricing system is based on the provisions of the Ghana Cocoa Board Act, 2026. The law provides for an automatic price-adjustment mechanism that takes into account international cocoa prices, exchange rates and other factors, while guaranteeing producers at least 70% of the gross FOB price.

COCOBOD is also working on a new financing model for cocoa purchases. The Ghanaian government seeks to reduce the industry’s reliance on traditional international syndicated loans and attract more domestic investors. The proposed Cocoa Notes programme is intended to mobilize funds on the domestic capital market for cocoa purchases and related operations.
