Malaysia to allow imports of breeding pigs and boar semen from Taiwan — Taipei Times
Malaysia has agreed to allow imports of breeding pigs and boar semen from Taiwan. Deliveries may begin after negotiations on quarantine certificate criteria are completed, Taipei Times reported, citing Taiwan’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Agency.
Veterinary service approval
According to the agency, on Thursday it received notification of the import approval through the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia. The document came from the Department of Veterinary Services of Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
Taiwan applied to export breeding pigs and boar semen to Malaysia in 2020. The Taiwanese side provided Malaysian authorities with documents on animal health, disease monitoring and breeding stock management.
The agency said Malaysia postponed consideration of the application after an outbreak of African swine fever in Taiwan in October 2025. After Taiwan regained its ASF-free status in April, the agency urged Malaysia’s veterinary service to complete the review and continued contacts with it.

Conditions for future deliveries
Malaysia has set quarantine requirements for imports. They include pre-export quarantine and health inspections of breeding pigs, as well as requirements for monitoring the health of boars from which semen is collected and the relevant artificial insemination centers.
Taiwan’s agency plans to review and confirm these criteria as soon as possible and prepare a model export quarantine certificate for consideration by the Malaysian side. Once the certification is agreed, Taiwanese producers will be able to export breeding pigs and boar semen that meet the established standards to Malaysia.
In 2023, 2024 and 2025, Taiwan exported 353, 297 and 445 high-quality breeding pigs, respectively, mainly to Hong Kong and Vietnam. During this period, boar semen was primarily supplied to Palau, the Marshall Islands, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
