Ghana’s agriculture minister meets with Ga Mantse — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, met with Ga Mantse Nii Teiko Tsuru II, the traditional leader of the Ga people. The parties discussed the participation of traditional leaders in the development of the agricultural sector and improving communication between the ministry and farming communities, MyJoyOnline reports.
Cooperation with communities
Nii Teiko Tsuru II supported the minister’s initiative and called for closer cooperation so that information about agricultural programs and government initiatives reaches communities more effectively. He also asked the ministry to pay greater attention to maize cultivation, emphasizing its importance for the food needs of the Ga people.
The Ga Mantse assured Opoku of continued support from the Ga traditional authorities. The meeting was part of the ministry’s broader consultations with traditional authorities on Ghana’s agricultural transformation.

Maize production
Opoku said that the ministry seeks to make agriculture a more profitable sector capable of attracting the younger generation. He referred to the Feed Ghana program and said that maize production in 2025 exceeded 4.6 million tonnes, while estimated domestic demand was about 3.6 million tonnes.
According to the outlet, consultations with traditional leaders are intended to strengthen partnerships, increase agricultural sector productivity, promote investment, and enhance Ghana’s food security.
