Ghana’s Agriculture Ministry Urges Reversal of World Bank Program Withdrawal — MyJoyOnline
Ghana’s Ministry of Food and Agriculture has called on the Ministry of Finance to reconsider the decision to withdraw the country from the West Africa Food System Resilience Program (FSRP). The ministry warned that existing contractual commitments totaling 643.87 million Ghanaian cedis could be at risk.
Letter sent without prior consultations
As MyJoyOnline reports, Minister of Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku stated in a letter to the finance minister that the Finance Ministry’s September 23 request to the World Bank regarding Ghana’s withdrawal from the program was submitted without prior consultations with his ministry.
According to the ministry, contractual commitments for ongoing agricultural infrastructure projects under the FSRP have already reached 643,867,633.36 Ghanaian cedis. Of this amount, 520.26 million cedis are linked to financing from the International Development Association, while another 123.61 million cedis are linked to the FS2030 Trust Fund.

Risks to agricultural projects
The ministry stressed that withdrawing from the program without an alternative financing mechanism could leave the government responsible for settling outstanding obligations from other sources. The ministry also warned of possible delays in project implementation, additional costs, and contractual claims.
The West Africa Food System Resilience Program is aimed at strengthening food system resilience, supporting agricultural productivity, and regional food security.
