China’s Zhejiang province exports grapes to Belgium for the first time — ECNS
A batch of Shine Muscat grapes from the city of Cixi in Ningbo, Zhejiang province in eastern China, was exported to Belgium on September 10 after a customs inspection. The shipment consisted of 30 boxes with a total weight of 150 kilograms and became the first export of fresh grapes from Zhejiang to that country.
Export preparation
As ECNS reports, Cixi Customs advised the farm on the European Union’s quarantine requirements and permissible pesticide residue levels. The agency also conducted preliminary risk monitoring and helped the producer comply with the required standards.
Due to the short shelf life of grapes, customs opened a green channel for fresh and perishable agricultural products inspected at the local level. Such cargoes were provided with priority and pre-arranged customs inspections to reduce clearance time.

Wu Kaibo, head of a fruit and vegetable farm in Cixi, said that customs facilitation made it possible to deliver the grapes to overseas buyers in proper quality and strengthened their confidence in the stability of supplies.
According to Cixi Customs, from January through August 2026 it supervised the export of 19.6 tonnes of fresh grapes worth 273,000 yuan, or approximately $40,400. The report notes that the coastal saline-alkali soil in Cixi gives the grapes a balanced sugar-to-acid ratio, dense flesh, and a distinctive taste.
