GiveDirectly, a non-profit organization, has launched a pilot program in New York City, where 160 residents of the South Bronx and East Harlem will receive $12,000 in cryptocurrency. The program is funded by donations from the cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase. Since September 2025, participants have been receiving $800 per month in USDC, and in November they were paid a lump sum of $8,000.
